Hine Takurua your winter has arrived,
He rises he sets,
Hine Raumati your time grows near
Tamanui Te Ra has two wives,
Hine Takurua his winter wife,
Hine Raumati his summer wife.
This work is a contemporary representation
of their story.
During the winter solstice Hine Raumati his summer wife can not see Tamanui Te Ra until summer returns.
It is said that Tamaunui Te Ra during winter spends his time being pulled in the early morning by Hine Takurua.
Inspired by the ancient bronze disc discovered in Germany.
The use of gold flake to represent the constellations is significant in relation to the ancient artefact where embossed gold was used as representations of the sun, moon and Pleiades.
